Villebillies

Foreword: Sometimes I wish I wrote one of the super-blogs - the ones ranking in the top 50 or so on Technorati. As an advertiser, I know and respect the power of word-of-mouth (and yes, I read the latest study making the buzz, and no, I don't think the actual statistics are worth very much) and there are some occasions when I really wish I could tell some 200,000 unique visitors about something really cool that's crossed my path. This is one of those days...

The Villebillies
I had the pleasure of being introduced to this band the other day (and I hope to meet them in person sometime soon), and while the name might be a bit cheesy, the music kicks @ss. A local Louisville group, these guys are on the verge of making it big and with good reason.

If I had to tell you what they sound like, I'd say it's bluegrass meets Outkast and throw in a damn lot of awesomeness - shaken, not stirred. But then again, I'm absolute crap when it comes to describing music, so I suggest you download a couple of their songs and listen for yourself.

When I say they're about to make it big, I'm not kidding. Apparently these guys were totally unsigned until just recently and got around by giving their friends CDs with mp3s on them to listen to freely. The story I've been told is that one of these CDs found its way to the President (or somebody super high up) at Universal who gave it a listen, came out to Louisville to see a live show, and knew that he/she immediately had to sign this band. Not a bad way to start out. Anyhoot, download the tracks and I'll give you a heads up when their CD comes out so you can buy it. I certainly will be.
