The above quote hangs framed in my office, serving as a daily reminder of my life and where I want it to go. For those of you who know it well, you'll know it comes from an editorial in the Daily Illini written by Shachar Meron about why he chose to go to the U of I over any other school. I use it as my motto for life.
Of course, recently I've been reading the quote and finding that I'm not following it true to form. The past two years I've spent my time at a wonderful not-so-little ad agency down in Florida working on deliciously (and not so deliciously) fun and sexy travel/tourism clients in what (at least on paper) is the dream job. For all that I've bitched about it, I've loved every moment and then some.
Anyhoo, back to my original point, the agency is not-so-little but it's not-so-big either, and as I look around at peeps I'd admire and consider (gasp!) where I might want to be in 5/10/15 years I realize that I'm a little fish with big wet dreams (hahaha). I'm swimming in a good size pond right now, but I'm looking to conquer the ocean. Or at least learn to swim well in it.
1100 people in one office. One of the oldest/most established agencies in the business. Offices on 6 of the 7 continents. Big accounts. Headline news. Stuff you'll see and hear about and love. Creative that'll move people, win awards, and rock your world.
So I'm swimming... in deeper, darker, faster, bigger, vaster, colder waters. And I couldn't be more excited.
