i can hardly contain my excitement! one of my favorite things about chicago is all the fabulous free (or super cheap) stuff there is to do in the city -- especially during the summer time. i do it all. weekends you'll find me up at the farmers' markets in lincoln park, sampling my way through breakfast/brunch (depending on how many vendors there are). weekdays you'll find me down at pritzker listening to whatever opera/symphony they have there. or running along the lakefront. or out and about at an outdoor fest.
but my super most favorite thing to do in the summer is go to the outdoor film fest in grant park. pack a blanket, grab some dinner & a bottle of wine over at bockwinkle's (they give you all the silverware you need), maybe even popcorn from garrett's, and watch movies under the stars every tuesday night starting in mid-july. this year's lineup below:
8:57 p.m. July 15: "All About Eve" (1950)
8:51 p.m. July 22: "The Odd Couple" (1968)
8:44 p.m. July 29: "The Blues Brothers" (1980)
8:35 p.m. Aug. 5: "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (1951)
8:25 p.m. Aug. 12: "Touch of Evil" (1958)
8:15 p.m. Aug. 19: "An Affair to Remember" (1957)
8:03 p.m. Aug. 26: "Grease" (1978)
that's right. can you say holy crap! i'm so unbelieveably excited. of the movies i haven't seen (all about eve, odd couple, touch of evil, affair to remember), the first two are definitely on my list. and blues brothers, day the earth stood still and grease are classic first-rate flicks. i'm so so so excited. wahoo!
