ran my final long training run today. 21 speedy miles. a bit speedier than i should have run them. oops. oh well. it is what it is.
my legs are tired now. shouldn't have forced that 10miler yesterday. it was a terrible running week overall. nothing felt good, i couldn't loosen up, i wasn't enjoying it. ugh. but that's life. and it's in the past.
so now i begin my taper madness. delightful. 78 more miles before the marathon. 24 remaining this week. 36 next week. and a measley 18 the following. and i'm consider paring it back even more. i keep reading how it's way better to be 10% undertrained than 1% overtrained.
overall things are pretty good. my legs will feel fine in an hour or so... maybe still a bit tired, but without pain. i feel strong throughout the body which allows for me to find strength from other areas when the legs get tired. somehow in the past 6 months i've noticably (to me) toned my arms. and i'm so not lifting any weights. guess it's all that swinging back and forth in the running. but i have muscles! it's so cool. i'd totally love to have slightly better abs, but perhaps that's to come with the next marathon.
oh yes, already planning the next marathon (or other cool running) shenanigans. must dos:
- bay to breakers - in san fran - it's totally crazy. naked people, costumes, debauchery. perhaps only 1/2 the people registered actually "run" this event. the rest "fun" this event. it's awesome. 12k of some crazy hills. third sunday in may. might be on the docket for 2010 depending on how travel shakes out.
- disney marathon - in orlando (duh) - actually, depending on how insane i am, maybe there's going for a goofy medal here. see, there's actually three races over the course of a january weekend - a 5k on friday, 1/2 (minnie) marathon on saturday, full marathon sunday. if you do the 1/2 and the full back to back you get a special goofy medal. and come to think of it, that's not too many more miles that what i just did this weekend. hmmm. anyhoo, if you do all three races it's unofficially called a dopey, but they don't have a medal for that yet. a must do for 2010.
- ky derby mini marathon - in louisville - derby weekend. they actually have a full, but since louisville is more of a "fried chicken" than "running" city, a huge majority of people just run the 1/2 marathon and that's where all the fun is centered around.
