56:38!

56:38! 6.2 miles in 56:38! That's a 9:09 mile. Wahoo! It was awesome. Well, sorta. Minus the crowds. 15000 people (the biggest Nike Human Race in the world) crammed onto the lakefront path does not equal fun running. it equals practically tripping over people running.

and they had just two groups for starting. those who ran sub-8min/miles and those who didn't, which meant i was starting behind a lot of 11-12min/milers, which in such a short race means i'm constantly passing them. it took us a full 20-25 minutes to get everyone through the starting line. i was about 15 minutes in. so things might have been a bit faster if i weren't always having to sort out the best way to pass people and zigzag. but it only would have been a bit faster. and overall it was awesome.

so, a 56:38 means:
  • 9:09/mile
  • 5:42-5:45/km for the first 7.5km
  • 5:27/km for the last 2.5km
  • 67,903th in the world
  • 3535th in chicago (that puts me just about in the fastest 1/3!)
wahoo!
