perhaps that's why this is bothering me so much. seems a lot of companies are doing holiday e-cards this year instead of the old fashion snail mail. so far, i've gotten then from 4 different companies and i'd expect a host more are en route in a few days. a child of the digital age, i heart email, but an e-card? no thanks. no matter how cool your flash and html, you won't top the power of a real signature in fountain pen ink on card stock.
jw marriott used to send out holiday cards to their top customers every year. a real card. signed and sent by a real person. with real envelopes, postage, ink, etc. rumor has it there was even a small personal message to their top of the top customers. i wasn't one of those. but i did get a card. and it went on my holiday card ledge with all of the other cards i'd recieved from family and friends. suddenly jw marriott (& the brand therein) was in my special place and among family and friends.
my e-cards this year have all ended up in my trash e-box. there's no special virtual fireplace mantel or ledge for holiday e-cards. so it makes me wonder if anybody will notice if you don't send a holiday e-card? and do they notice if the once traditional holiday card (read: paper, pen, snail mail) is suddenly replaced by the ever mass-appeal e-card?
much to think about as i make my way to the post office to mail off the rest of our holiday cards to friends and family...
