irksome

saw last king of scotland last night and while it may have been a great movie, the featured product placement is what i'll remember most. see, in the movie there's a fair bit of liquor consumed - not an insane amount, but enough - and most of its whiskey. throughout the movie they refer to consuming whiskey and all is fine and dandy.

however, towards the end there's a scene where the main characters are in a room full of liquors and something struck me because very prominently in the background is southern comfort. a lot of southern comfort. the camera pans around and sudden i realize there are a lot of familiar bottles -- all brown-forman (alcohol distributer i used to advertise for) brands. southern comfort, amarula, tuaca, randomness.

anyhoot, back to whiskey, camera pans in close to a whiskey bottle, except oddly enough that bottle is a generic looking bottle with the word "whiskey" written on it. couldn't place why that bothered me last night but this morning it struck me. it was the only non-branded alcohol in the whole set. and why is that? because brown-forman sold their signature glenmorangie whiskey to lvmh about a year ago. go figure.

irksome -- but only to me. go see the movie.
