"Have you heard that Walmart has partnered with the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce in an effort to reach out to homosexuals?"
Truth be told, no I had not heard. But I can't say I'm really surprised. It's smart of Walmart to try and reach out to one of the most affluent consumer segments. Not really sure what good it will do.
- Walmart has too conservative a background - they're like Cracker Barrel without the blatant discrimination acts against homosexuals. (sidenote: I really don't understand how an establishment like CB stays in business. The food is gross and their ethics/morals/company practices are absolutely outrageous.)
- Most homosexuals have better taste than Walmart. Maybe that's a flagrant generalization, but I have both personal experience and consumer spending trends to back it up, so I feel safe saying it.
- The time-tested rule of "you can't be everything to everyone" throws big rocks at this initiative.
In other Walmart news, the smiley face is retiring. . In an effort to elevate its image from its cinderblock foundations, Wal-Mart has already
removed Smiley from its employees’ attire and from
its redesigned Web site. (source: adfreak)
