the apprentice

one of my favorite clients told me to watch the apprentice tonight (we were trading emails at 9pm, so why not?). i've seen this show once or twice many moons ago - i think it was back during the first season - but now the show has add all-new twists and turns to its absurdity. anyhoot, solicited or otherwise, i scribbled some thoughts throughout the show which i share below...
  1. drama is a cheap thrill to fill time, but has no place in productive smart business
  2. this show is a fantastic way to ruin your career
  3. didn't the donald say "do what you love and the money will follow"? why aren't these people following that and selling out to whatever makes them the most money the fastest?
  4. i wonder if they allow the contestants to read outside media (i.e., the wall st. journal). most reality shows don't allow this.
  5. "winning" in the real world generally leads to more work/responsibility/challenges. not a "get out of jail free for a week" card.
  6. both of the smaller "arrow" teams are losers because they took a crappy product and tried to improve on it, a little. Different costumes, adding beverages, whatever. These "shiny object add-ons" might make you some money some of the time, but they'll never lead to a revolution. They never bothered to ask themselves why people take star tours. What's the benefit? It's like going back to the days of the portable CD player... everyone was adding more shock protection, longer battery life, adding radio stations, but Apple comes along, recognizes people want to carry their music with them and create the iPod.
  7. the donald's end speech about quitting was nonsense. if you never decidedly end situations/tasks/jobs/etc. that definitively sub-optimal, how are you to have the resources to pursue something better? for a guy who has 3 wives under his belt, his speech about never giving up is a little ironic.
the end.
